Villagers belonging to Ananjiyur coming under Kunnathur circle in Madurai North taluk staged a protest here on Tuesday alleging that a ‘kanmoi’ (tank) was under encroachment by a realtor.
In a representation made to the Collector at the grievance day meeting on Monday, the villagers stated that plot numbers 20 and 21 near the Periya Kanmoi had been encroached.
The petition claimed that the villagers were dependent on the tank which facilitated irrigation of thousand acres.
Plea for fresh survey
The villagers demanded that the Revenue Department should conduct a fresh survey of the land and prevent the encroachment of the water body and protect the rights of the villagers to carry out farming.
