The District Auditors Association has urged the top officials of various departments to take steps to submit Form 26A along with Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) to the Income Tax offices properly.
In a resolution passed at the meeting of the association held here recently, they said only a few companies and government departments sincerely submit Form 26A.
Many companies did not bother to remit the TDS amount to the Income Tax office. When enquired many officials, insurance agencies, contractors said that they were ignorant of the methods to be followed while submitting 26A forms.
Though the Income Tax Department had clearly stated that TDS amount should be paid within the timeframe and the details should be printed in the Form16, it had not been followed properly.
The salaried class people could not get the refund for the claims made by them during the last year. It had denied the rights of tax payers. Hence, the top officials should monitor the staff members, who were dealing with accounts and income tax.
They should take earnest steps to remit the TDS on time. M.A. Sundararajan, president of the association, presided over the meeting. Nizam Alikhan, vice president, V. Malaiyappan, secretary, N. Loganathan, Rethinam took part.
