Swimmers bring glory to Madurai

Madurai Swimming team won a total of nine medals that included one Gold, three Silver and five Bronze medals in the Tamil Nadu State Sub Junior and Junior Swimming Championship conducted by Tamil Nadu State Aquatic Association at Velachery SDAT Aquatic Complex Swimming pool in Chennai from June 1 to 3.

A total of 600 Swimmers from all over Tamil Nadu that included 21 from Madurai (18 Boys and 3 girls) participated in the event.

A. Govind Chakkaravarthy from Group I in the under-17 category has been selected for the Junior National Swimming Championship in Chennai from July 11 to 14.

He won a total of five medals that included two Silver medals in 50m Freestyle (26.31s) and 100m Freestyle (57.75s) categories respectively, followed by three Bronze medals in 200m Freestyle (2:09.08s), 400m Freestyle (4:35.62s) and 50m Butterfly (27.91s) categories respectively.

P. Vikkas from Group IV in the under-10 category has been selected for Sub-Junior National Swimming Champion to be held at Rajkot from July 1 to 4.

He won a total of three medals that included a Gold, Silver and Bronze medal each in the 100m Freestyle (1:13.01s), 50m Freestyle (33.13s) and 200m IM (3:03.83s) categories respectively P.E.Selvaprasanna from Group III in the under-12 category won a Bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle (1:10.50s) category.

The Madurai District Sports Officer Ramasubramanian, President, Madurai District Swimming Association M. Stalin Arokiyaraj, Secretary N. Kannan and Madurai District Swimming Coach M. Vijayakumar felicitated the winners at MGR Stadium Swimming Pool.
