The Madras High Court bench here today dismissed writ petitions filed by 11 persons in 2007 and 2008 against rejection of their candidature to join the Tamil Nadu police force on various grounds including involvement in criminal cases.

Justice K Chandru said the rule 14(b)of the Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Service Rules stated that selection could be cancelled if a candidate had not disclosed his involvement in criminal cases in his/her application.

The Supreme Court also had held in one case that candidates supressing such information would have no right to challenge the proceedings and the principles of natural justice would also not apply to them, the judge said.

The full bench of the Madras High court also had upheld the validity of an amendment made to the rule thereby excluding from selection even candidate who were acquitted in criminal cases by granting benefit of doubt.
