Hundreds of students, who had completed Standard XII and awaiting results of the final examinations, thronged three designated centres in the city on Saturday to buy application forms to join engineering colleges through common counselling conducted by Anna University, Chennai.
The forms were distributed at Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Tamil Nadu Polytechnic College, and Meenakshi Women’s College on submission of Demand Drafts for Rs. 250 for the SC/ST candidates and Rs. 500 for others, drawn in favour of Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions.
The huge turnout of students to buy the applications was a testimony to the craze among students to pursue engineering courses offered by over 570 colleges in the State. The applications will be distributed till May 20, the last date for submission of the filled-in forms.
As per schedule, every applicant will be issued a random number on June 5 and a rank list published on June 12. The counselling will begin by June 21 and continue till July 30. Classes will begin on August 1.
