Students and faculty from the Madura College came together on the college campus to celebrate Pongal festival with a host of special events and competitions here on Wednesday.
The students came decked up in dhoties and saris to mark the occasion and thirteen departments prepared the traditional Pongal at the college grounds.
More than 3,000 students of both the morning and evening college streams participated in a host of traditional games and sports held.
Folk performances such as ‘Oyilattam,’ ‘Karagattam’ and ‘Thappatam’ were also organised.
Principal R. Murali said that the celebrations were organised to expose the students to the traditions and culture associated with the festival.

“Since all the departments come together, it also brings about an oneness in the college. The students were asked to present an artwork on the theme of Pongal festival which was displayed in the college,” he said.
A traditional food festival was also organised as a part of the celebrations where the students and faculty got a taste of traditional recipes made using millets.
