The inauguration of a Student Productivity Club at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College here was the highlight of the Productivity Week celebrations of the Madurai Productivity Council, which concluded on Saturday.
The objective of the Student Productivity Club, claimed to be the first of its kind in the country, is to create productivity consciousness among undergraduate and postgraduate students, according to G. Subramanian, programme committee chairman. A lecture on ‘Students' contribution to national productivity' was delivered by C. Muthuraja of the Department of Economics, American College, on the occasion.
The week-long celebration was inaugurated on February 12 by V. Neethimohan, chairman, Vaigai Group of companies. In his address, Mr. Neethimohan emphasised the need to improve productivity . T. Malaiarasan, advisor, Gujarat Heavy Chemicals, highlighted the need to be innovative in the manufacturing sector .
The positive change in mindset among employees towards modernisation was brought out by R. Thiruvenkataswamy of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences in his talk for trade union members organised at the office of HMS on February 14. V. P. R. Sankaralingam, past president of Lions Club of Madurai Cosmos, delivered a talk on the role of service organisations in improving productivity.
At a meeting organised at Ayyankottai for dairy farmers on February 16, P. Krishnamoorthy, former Joint Director of Agriculture, explained how improvement in farm productivity should be planned in March/April every year with soil test, followed by water management techniques. A meeting of IT professionals was addressed by R. Jegadeeswaran, Technical Head of NIIT.
In his address, G. Hari, General Manager, TVS Srichakra, said that productivity and innovation were inter-linked in improving the performance of an organisation, according to a release.
