Stray dogs roaming the city streets have started attacking goats and sheep giving sleepless nights to animal owners.

K. Shanmugham of Surya Nagar, who brought his injured sheep to the Government Veterinary Poly Clinic on Friday, was angry as he had already lost one to a stray dog bite on Wednesday night.

His sheep was administered anti-rabies vaccine and the treatment will continue for one week.

Same was the case with Manickavelu of Reserve Line area, who brought his three-month-old goats for rabies vaccination as they were injured by stray dogs.

“In our area, four goats died on a single day in different places when dogs attacked them. We are afraid of nights due to dog bites for our animals,” laments Shanmugham.

According to them, the Corporation must take note of areas like Surya Nagar, Al Ameen Nagar and Jawaharlalpuram Road which have become hotspots for dog bite.

At least five fresh cases of goats and sheep suffering wounds due to attack by dogs are being reported in the poly clinic every week.
