Cadre of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and traders staged a demonstration seeking the arrest of Madurai Corporation zonal chairperson (zone 3), M. Rajapandian, against whom a case of assaulting a trader was registered.
Addressing the protestors, the party MLA, R. Annadurai said that the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, had warned the AIADMK councillors of Chennai corporation on complaints of irregularities.
He thanked the Chief Minister for relieving Mr. Rajapandian of his party post.
He said that he had taken up the issue of Mr. Rajapandian trying to fleece residents and traders. Last week, he assaulted a trader who had resisted to give in to his demands. Mr. Annadurai said that he would continue to complain to the Chief Minister about the irregularities by those in power in Madurai district.
The party district secretary, B. Vikraman, said the residents had rejected the DMK that had been ruling the city for three consecutive terms for the atrocities committed by the elected representatives. The AIADMK councillors were also taking the same path, he said. He questioned why the police had failed to arrest Rajapandian.
An educationist Baskaran, complained that Mr. Rajapandian was more interested in making money for himself than bringing revenue to the corporation.
