A woman must be educated because the mother is the first teacher to a child. Women are equal to men in all respect.

Carrying an important message to the society to impart education to women, 36 students and three teachers from the Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, Tirupur district, arrived here on a cycle expedition en route to Cumbum in Theni district on Monday.

The students commenced their journey from their school campus at 6 a.m. on July 1.

These students would be covering a distance of 360 kilometres, that would culminate at Cumbum, it was said.

Women’s role stressed

According to the students, “if society is a bicycle, men and women are the two wheels. If one of the wheels is defective, society cannot move forward. To avoid this, educating women and bringing them on a par with men is necessary.

A woman must be educated because the mother is the first teacher to a child. Women are equal to men in all respect.

They are capable of excelling in every walk of life as men are. Gone are the days, when women were treated as inferior to men,” they campaigned.

During the campaign they would be distributing pamphlets printed in Tamil and English to the public.

Later, Collector Anshul Mishra flagged off the cycle expedition from the Collector’s camp office on the New Natham Road, an official press release said.
