Madurai Corporation's special camps to enumerate in places with thatched-roofed and tiled-roofed houses to enable the owners of such houses to derive benefit for a concrete house from a corporation housing scheme is under way.
Mayor V.V.Rajan Chellappa through a release said that the civic body's special camps are under way only in the newly added 28 wards with the corporation in the city.
There are about 24 teams which are involved in the enumeration process.
Camp officers of each ward along with the plan execution committee officers would be involved in the process to identify the eligible beneficiaries.
Review meeting
A review meeting was held in this regard by Corporation Commissioner (Additional Charge) Arumuga Nainar on Monday.
The commissioner said that owners of houses there should present title deeds for the land, on which the house stands, photo copies of ration card, voter identity card shall be attached to avail of financial benefits to convert their houses into concrete-roofed ones.
Already 17,000 beneficiaries have been identified under the scheme.
The Corporation had decided to finance reconstruction of 6,000 houses in the ensuing financial year.
If the person on whose name the title deed is registered is not alive then the legal heir certificates shall be submitted to the respective title deeds and the applicants should also present their mobile numbers along with the application.
2,500 beneficiaries
A total of 2,500 beneficiaries were identified so far in the newly added areas and before March 22, eligible beneficiaries shall be identified, the Mayor said.
This was part of the Union Government-sponsored Basic Services for Urban Poor scheme, the aim of which was to make Madurai a hut-free city. The research teams were led by A.Balasubramanian, Research and Training Officer, Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Chennai.
