Spate of chain thefts during temple car festival

A spate of incidents of theft of gold chains was reported during the Car festival of Lord Subramaniaswamy temple at Tirupparankundram near here on Saturday. Over 27 sovereigns of gold were missing during the crowded event.

Among the victims were two children who lost their valuables. G. Arumugam of Perungudi had complained that two gm of gold talisman was found missing from her three-year-old daughter Namitha. Similarly, I. Saranya of Balaji Nagar found that one-and-a-half sovereign of gold chain was missing from her daughter.

P. Subbulakshmi (60) of Tirunagar had lost 11 sovereigns of gold. R. Vishnu Gandhi (30) of Harveypatti had lost four sovereigns of gold after she had mingled in a crowd to get prasadam distributed near the temple.

R. Perumayi of Kappalur (61) and S. Kasturi (35) of Tirunagar were also relieved of four sovereigns of gold each. R. Rasathi of Pudupatti was relieved of three sovereigns of gold. The Tirupparankundram police are investigating the case.
