Eighty-two per cent of the total ration cardholders in the district have furnished their Aadhaar card details, said Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao here on Saturday.

Distributing new smart family cards to the public, replacing the old ration cards to procure essentials from PDS outlets, at a function organised in Oomachikulam and Thirumangalam, he said that the district had 1,389 ration shops. A total of 9,51,303 applications were received for issuance of smart family cards. Out of this, 8,46,360 cardholders had linked their Aadhaar card details to their ration cards. From today onwards, all ration cardholders who had linked their Aadhaar card details would get an SMS in their registered mobile phones. On receipt of the SMS, they can approach the ration shop with their original Aadhaar card, on production of which, they can obtain the new smart family cards. The public need not pay money. Mr. Rao said that those who had not yet registered their mobile phone numbers with the ration shops, may do so at once. “Every ration cardholder will get the new smart family cards,” and there was no need to panic. The government has taken steps to check all details and issue smart family cards. Likewise, those who were yet to get Aadhaar card, may approach the Tahsildar office.

For addition or deletion of names, change of address to be carried out in smart family cards, the cardholder need not approach the taluk offices, but furnish the particulars at the nearest e-seva centres, he said. The District Supply Officers explained about safety features on smart cards.
