Despite being early in the morning, a large crowd of people gathered outside Sourashtra Boys’ Higher Secondary School here on Sunday to cheer and motivate L.S. Yogashree, a 12-year-old girl, who was attempting to create a world record.

The young student of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar School covered 2.2 km on Kamarajar Salai in 20.57 minutes on roller skates blindfolded, while dribbling two basketballs, to create a world record.

“My elder daughter L.S. Shivashree entered Limca Book of World Records while performing the same feat two years back in the city, but she was not blindfolded,” said L.K. Sundaramoorthy, her father and sports coach of Spirit Sports Development Trust.

As Yogashree embarked on roller skates at 7 a.m., many who had assembled to watch her feat jogged along to cheer her. The city traffic police had restricted entry of vehicles for a one-km stretch from the school campus during the feat.

Stating that her favourite sports were basketball and table tennis, Yogashree said she was actively involved in athletics and games for the past two years. “I prepared for 15 days for the feat. It was important to maintain my focus while blindfolded and dribble the balls with precision,” she said.

Mr. Sundaramoorthy said that video recordings of the event would be sent to the Limca Book committee.
