A man missing case reported about six years ago, which had subsequently turned into an alleged murder case, was solved by the CB-CID police.

Following a complaint from Vasanthi that her husband A. Balakrishnan was missing, A. Mukkulam police in Virudhunagar district had registered a case of man missing in April 2009. After almost four years, in April 2013, the Austinpatti police in Madurai district recovered a two-wheeler from a well.

Under these circumstances, the missing person Balakrishnan’s father Adinarayanan approached the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court praying for a CB-CID probe. Following a directive, the CB-CID police took over the investigation in October 2014.

Discreet probe led the police to examine two prime suspects – Sankar of Pulvakarai and Kurinjinathan of Namachivayapuram in Virudhunagar district.

Based on the confession of Sankar, the police found that Kurinjinathan had an illicit affair with Vasanthi and that there was frequent quarrel in the house. Hence, when Balakrishnan, who was working as a supervisor in a TASMAC outlet, was returning home in the night on his two-wheeler, Kurinjinathan waylaid and attacked him with wooden logs, following which Balakrishnan died.

After transporting the body to a nearby pond, on a goods vehicle driven by Kurinjinathan, the duo had allegedly burnt it and abandoned the two-wheeler in a well. A ring worn by the victim was recovered from the accused.

The six-year-old unsolved crime was successfully solved by the CB-CID team, a press release issued here on Wednesday said.
