The Virudhunagar District Crime Branch police have arrested six persons for the mysterious death of K. Karpagaraj (27) of Neeravipatti under Sattur Taluk police limits.

The police said the victim was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on May 29, 2017 in an unconscious state.

It was said that the youth had sustained head injuries after he fell down from a neem tree. Subsequently, he died at the hospital on May 31. The Sattur Taluk police registered a case under suspicious death.

Meanwhile Valliammal, mother of the deceased, filed a petition before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court raising suspicion in her son's death.

She sought transfer of the investigation to some other officer.

Based on the High Court order, Virudhunagar Superintendent of Police handed over the probe to the District Crime Branch Inspector of Police Murugesan.

Upon investigation, it was found that the youth Karpagaraj was assaulted with an iron rod by a gang led by Marimuthu (50).

The police said that Marimuthu had employed the deceased for slaughtering animals.

However, when Karpagaraj chartered his own way in the business, Marimuthu got annoyed and conspired to murder him.

Besides Marimuthu, five others were also arrested. The police are on the lookout for two more accused.
