Special medical camp at A. Vellalapatti

The Health Department will conduct a special medical camp at A. Vellalapatti village in Melur block on Sunday to identify and treat fever patients.

This camp is being organised as part of dengue fever surveillance which has been intensified in the wake of an outbreak of the vector-borne disease.

On Sunday, mobile medical units will be deployed in the village to screen people. Health officials will also distribute Siddha drug ‘nilavembu kudineer’ which is considered as an effective preventive medicine for dengue fever.

“We have intensified mosquito control activity and fever surveillance in Melur block. The main focus is on A. Vellalapatti from where more dengue cases are coming. Additionally, six health inspectors have been deputed there from other places in the district so that mosquito source reduction work could be done swiftly,” P. Vadivelan, Joint Director of Public Health, said on Saturday.

He said that people could get Siddha drugs for dengue prevention from Primary Health Centres or Government Hospitals.

According to him, the fever cases are coming down following mosquito control activity and the Health Department is geared up to do more work in Melur block to prevent anymore dengue cases in the rainy season.

“Waste containers and unused articles in houses are being removed. Water stagnation should not happen at all and public cooperation is essential,” Dr. Vadivelan said.

Dengue control measures in Madurai district are being implemented with the support of local bodies and staff from various government departments.
