More than two hundred shops remained closed in Srivaikuntam on Thursday in protest against the killing of three persons in a clash, which broke out between two groups of people in Ramanathapuram district on the occasion of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanthi on October 30.

The strike was called by Forward Bloc, sources said. The members of the party demanded the arrest of those who had indulged in the violence. However, public transport services were not affected. Auto rickshaws and taxis also did not ply.
