Seven rural athletes, studying at St. Teresa’s Higher Secondary School, Vadakkankulam in the district, have been selected for the State-level sports meet following their stupendous performance in the divisional-level sports meet held at Kovilpatti on November 16.

The students representing the division in the State-level sports meet to be held at Tiruchi during January next year are S. Vignesh (long jump), A. John Jacob (Pole Vault), R. Kenish (400 metres) and D. Aron Raja, R. Shajin, Sahaya Vinoth and C. Argret (all for 4 X 400 metre relay).

In the overall performance, the school bagged 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals and a bronze medal in the divisional-level sports meet.

While Vignesh cleared 6.21 metre in the long jump (a divisional record), John Jacob overleaped 2.90 metre in the pole vault.

In the 400 metre run, Kenish crossed the distance in 3 minutes and 37seconds, which is also a divisional record.

Felicitation

In a simple felicitation function organised in the school recently, correspondent Rev. Fr. Nelson Paulraj, headmistress Justus and the teaching and non-teaching staff congratulated the winners with humble background as well as the Physical Education teachers Devasekhar and Samanthi, who trained these promising athletes.
