Seven file nominations in Madurai

Aam Aadmi Party candidate for the Madurai Parliamentary constituency M. Kamacis filed his nomination with Collector and Returning Officer L. Subramanian here on Thursday. Six independent candidates too filed their papers to contest the 16th Lok Sabha elections.

Later addressing media persons, Mr. Kamacis said as a “common man” he would represent the general public and try to find solutions to the problems faced by them.

“If elected, I will concentrate on water scarcity and will seek to bring more reputed institutions of higher education to the district,” he said.

As per his affidavit, Mr. Kamacis, a chartered accountant, has movable assets worth Rs.14.87 lakh in his name, and his wife C. Vimala has movable assets worth Rs.14.46 lakh, which include 572 grams of gold worth Rs.14.30 lakh. His daughter has 144 grams of gold worth Rs.3.6 lakh. His wife has in her name immovable assets worth Rs.12 lakh — a non-agricultural land measuring 2,690 square feet. Mr. Kamacis has liabilities to the tune of Rs.9.6 lakh.

Among the independent candidates who filed their nominations was V. Andisamy, a lawyer, who filed his papers on behalf of All Tamil Nadu Mutharaiyar Sangam.

Kuppal G. Devados, founder president of Jai Munnetra Kazhagam, came to the Collectorate along with the members of the Saurashtra community and filed his nomination.

M. Mohammed Ali, general secretary of Indian National League, and K. Raja, a member of National Forward Bloc, too filed their nominations to contest from the constituency.

The others who filed nominations were M. Gopalakrishnan, a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal, and P. Ramasubramanian, district head of All India Hindu Maha Sabha.

So far 14 candidates, including those of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Communist Party of India (Marxist), have filed their papers in the four days of filing nominations.
