April 11, 2010 04:53 pm | Updated 04:53 pm IST - Tuticorin:

The members of Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers Association, Tuticorin, demanded pay structure and other benefits on a par with central government teachers at a gate meeting organised by the TNPGTA here in front of Karapettai Nadar Bous Higher Secondary School on Saturday. Prior to the paper valuation, the teachers raised slogans in favour of their demands.

K. Boopalan, state headquarters secretary of the association, said the problem of stagnation in promotion of post graduate teachers should be wiped off.

Meanwhile, he stressed on the need for forming a separate Directorate for dealing with higher secondary education. The streams of elementary and high schools had directorates concerned. It would be a welcome relief for us to bring back the pension scheme which was in existence during 2003. Citing reasons for difficulties in paper valuation, he urged the authorities to set up an answer script valuation centre at Kovilpatti. Since the teachers had been travelling from various parts of the district, they were getting stressed out.

A. Sakthivel Murugan, district president, presided. A. Mujeebur, district secretary, G. Leelavathi, State Women's Wing Secretary, K. Vadivel, district organising secretary took part.
