Criminals poison two dogs in Narayanapuram
In a shocking incident, burglars poisoned two dogs to death at a house in Radhakrishnan Street near Mandai Amman Koil Street at Narayanapuram here in the early hours of Thursday.
They also took away an LED television, expensive mobile phones and laptops from a house in the opposite row.
Residents of the area complained that in the last 10 days, a number of house break-ins were reported. Many locked houses were burgled late in the night or in the early hours.
The pattern of crimes suggested that the miscreants had hopped from one house to another. By studying the locked houses in daytime, they might have committed the crimes at night, Johnson, a resident, said.
“Though the people informed Oomachikulam police of the burglaries, they have not taken any tangible action,” he claimed.
Pandiarajan, a schoolteacher, had a sad tale to narrate. “I had two dogs at home. They would bark when strangers moved in the street. Their presence was reassuring to many. The burglars had poisoned both my pet animals to death,” he said.
“We are worried that the burglars may strike again. To instil confidence in the people, the police should intensify patrolling,” he said.
Residents of the area said they had submitted a petition to the Oomachikulam police and urged Collector L. Subramanian and Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S. Bidari to take action.30 sovereigns stolen
Meanwhile, some burglars broke into the locked house of one Kaja Mohideen in Koodal Nagar and decamped with gold jewels weighing around 30 sovereigns and Rs.20,000 in cash. To make sure that the fingerprint experts did not lift fingerprints from the scene of crime, the burglars had sprinkled chilly powder all over the place before making away with the booty.
