A separate outpatient (OP) counter for senior citizens has been opened at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here.  S. Vadivel Murugan, Medical Superintendent, GRH, said the separate counter would remain open on all days to help the aged people get medical care quickly.

The arrangement has been made in response to the long-pending demand of the patients at the hospital for opening a counter for those above 60 years of age as many people complained of waiting for a long time in the queues to get OP tickets, purchase medicines and meet the physicians. According to the hospital staff, every day around 600 people visit the general OP ward. A majority them are elderly people who come with headache, fever and other minor health problems.

Besides, a geriatric care centre and a neurology centre dedicated to senior citizens have been functioning thrice a week. The newly-opened counter will function from 7.30 a.m. to 12 noon.
