Security beefed up for Independence Day

Adequate police personnel have been deployed across Tuticorin district to enhance security ahead of Independence Day celebrations to be held on Wednesday.

Adequate police personnel have been deployed across Tuticorin district to enhance security ahead of Independence Day celebrations to be held on Wednesday.

Security has been strengthened at all the vital installations.

Sniffer dogs were also pressed in to service at important places including railway stations and bus stations.

Passengers at railway station were frisked by the security personnel.

Security was also beefed up at Vagaikulam airport and surveillance has been intensified along the coastline of the district.

Around 1, 500 police personnel were deputed for the task, police sources said here on Tuesday.

Nine check posts were established at various locations.

Patrolling would be carried out round-the-clock.

Two teams involved

Besides, two teams including anti-sabotage check and bomb disposal squad were involved in this security operation to detect any suspicious elements.
