December 06, 2010 04:32 pm | Updated 04:32 pm IST - MADURAI:

Screening camps for differently-abled persons was conducted in all 10 Assembly constituencies in the district here on Sunday.

Following a directive from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi that differently-abled persons be provided with assistances such as tri-cycle, calipers, Braille for visually challenged persons among others through the MLA Development Fund, the officials conducted the camps.

Addressing beneficiaries at Vadipatti, Sholavandan MLA P. Moorthy said that the State government was providing all assistance to the weaker sections in the society through various people-friendly programmes.

According to Assistant Director (Differently-Abled Welfare Department) K.M. Kanagaraj, the officials had collected all information about the beneficiaries in a printed format. Basic details about them would help the officials to know the quantum of disability and the benefits to be received from other government departments. Persons could register their names until December 19.
