Sale of application forms for engineering courses commenced in two centres here on Monday.
As the sale of application forms began at the Government College of Engineering around 9.30 a.m., good number of parents and students were seen waiting in long queues to buy the applications sold through four counters. While the cost of the application for students from general category was Rs. 500, it was only Rs. 250 for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, who had to produce a copy of their community certificate while buying the application.
Similarly, the sale commenced at Rani Anna Government College for Women, Pettai, also for the benefit of students from western parts of the district.
For the aspirants in Tuticorin district, application forms were being sold at Government Polytechnic.
Meanwhile, the sale of application for Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc.), Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) and Bachelor of Food Processing Technology (B.Tech.), all being offered by the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, also commenced on Monday.
Fee for the application form was Rs. 250 for SC / ST students and Rs. 500 for others. Application forms can be obtained from the Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI), Tuticorin, either in person or through post by sending a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai – 51, along with a self addressed stamped (Rs. 40) envelope (size 37.5 x 28 cm).
The filled-in application forms should reach the Chairman, Admission Committee (UG), Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai - 51, before June 7.
V.K. Venkataramani, Director of Research & Extension (Fisheries), who inaugurated the sale of application at FCRI, Tuticorin, told ‘The Hindu' on Monday that a total of 35 seats would be offered for the bachelor programmes in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) to be conducted at the FCRI here. Of the 35 seats, one each would be reserved for children of freedom fighter, physically challenged and children of ex-servicemen, two each for sports quota and candidates who had studied under vocational stream.
Five seats would be allotted for candidates selected by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, through an All India Entrance Examination.
The admission to the remaining seats would be based on the reservation norms being followed by the State government.
