Following several allegations that irregularities took place while filling up vacancies in various departments of the university, steps were taken to conduct a probe into the matter.
Taking into account the demand from members of the Senate and various associations, the university had announced that an investigation would be conducted into the charges.
Accordingly, Mr. Raman would conduct the probe.
Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, told The Hindu on Saturday that the retired High Court Judge would submit the enquiry report at the earliest and further steps would be taken based on it.
Nearly 90 teaching post backlog vacancies, mostly of Assistant Professors, were filled up during the three-year term of Professor Karpaga Kumaravel from 2008 to 2011.
Allegations that teaching posts were “sold” were raised during the Senate meetings and the university authorities had then assured that “things will not be kept under carpet and everything will be probed into thoroughly.”
“I am sure that Mr. Raman too realises the gravity of the situation and the importance of demand for probe. He will submit the report as early as possible,” Dr. Kalyani Mathivanan said.
This enquiry committee was constituted based on the Syndicate decision on June 2.
It would find out whether ineligible persons were appointed as Assistant Professors during the tenure of the former VC.
Diabetes screening
Meanwhile, the university is conducting a free diabetes screening camp on Sunday for the benefit of people in and around Nagamalai Pudukottai.
Expert doctors will conduct check up at the MKU Health Centre for local people and varsity staff.
