The authorities should take adequate steps to ensure regular supply of drinking water, the residents of Palayapuram ward – I in Milavittan panchayat, demanded while staging demonstration in front of the Collectorate here on Monday. The residents, who came with their empty pots, alleged that there was no supply of water for the past twenty seven days and demanded immediate supply.

M. Kamala, District President, All India Democratic Women's Association, alleged that the agitating members, who were beneficiaries of the Mangalakurichi combined drinking water scheme, had to walk up to 5 km to fetch drinking water from the water tank on Palayamkottai Road. Mostly the people residing in the area were daily wage labourers and their work was being affected due to their walk for fetching drinking water. The members had also taken up the issue with the panchayat president five days ago and there was no remedy for this plight, the district president, who led the agitation, said.
