Condemning the Tuticorin corporation authorities, who failed to ensure regular supply of drinking water to residents of Muthiahpuram J.S. Nagar of ward 54, the affected residents with their empty pots, turned out at the Collectorate here on Monday.
The agitating women said as many as 250 households were residing in the locality sans drinking water supply over the past three months. Every household had paid Rs. 2, 000 towards deposit fee after the authorities assured regular supply of water under special scheme previously when Muthaiyapuram, in which the locality was attached, was under the administration of panchayat, but the residents had only been deceived. In spite of the problem, some people have been involved in illegally pumping drinking water with mechanised motors. Even after representing the wrongdoings no action was taken. Hence, the residents sought intervention of authorities to find an early solution to their woes.
