Residence proof for passport

Passbook issued by regional rural banks and scheduled private banks for accountholders will also be accepted as residence proof while applying for passports. In a statement here on Friday, Regional Passport Officer S. Manishwar Raja said passbooks issued by 105 banks, including public sector banks, would be accepted as one of the 13 documents for proof of residence.

Regional rural banks and scheduled private banks included Pandiyan Grama Bank, Bharat Overseas Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank, Federal Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, City Union Bank, Lakshmi Vilas Bank, South Indian Bank, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, ING Vysya Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, DCB Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Employees of government and public sector undertakings and teachers of government schools could obtain no-objection certificate (NOC) from appointing authority. Police personnel from the rank of first grade constable to inspector could obtain NOC from the Superintendent of Police and those from the rank of DSP to Addional SP should get it from the Director General of Police. SPs and IPS officers should get it from the Home Ministry to get passports.
