‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation’ on Thursday launched a series of programmes, taking Mr. Kalam’s vision 2020 closer to scores of school and college students in the district, ahead of the late leader’s second remembrance day on July 27.

The foundation, which was observing Mr. Kalam’s second death anniversary as ‘2nd Remembrance Day,’ had chalked out a series of programmes to be organised from Thursday to July 27 in various schools and colleges to turn Kalam’s vision 2020 into a reality.

Mr. Kalam’s elder brother A.P.J.M. Muthu Meera Maraikayar formally launched the programmes at ‘House of Kalam’ in Rameswaram on Thursday.

Mr. A.P.J.M.J. Sheik Saleem, grand nephew of Mr. Kalam and trustee of the foundation said a host of dignitaries have been invited to address various programmes till July 27.

Pledge

He said about 5,000 students would take the ‘Kalam pledge’ at the Kalam vision 2020 function scheduled to be held at Mohamed Sathak Engineering College in Kilakarai on Friday.

Collector S. Natarajan would preside over the function. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist Mylswamy Annadurai and S. V. Sharma, deputy director, ISRO, Bengaluru would address the function and interact with the students, he said.

This would be followed by the launch of a series of other projects at various schools and colleges, he said. “We have selected the venues in such a way to cover all schools and colleges in the district,” he said.

The whole idea was to fulfil Mr. Abdul Kalam’s dream to make India into a developed nation and involve the student community in achieving his vision, he also added.
