The Madras High Court here has ordered notice to the State Prison department and the Virudhunagar district police on a writ petition filed by the mother of a life convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination seeking one month parole for her son to settle family disputes.
P. Rajeswari, the mother of Ravi alias Ravichandran, sought for directions to the State, the Superintendent of Central Prison in Madurai and the Virudhunagar district police to grant parole to her son and permit him to meet his lawyers, visit temples and family properties and to undergo a health check-up.
The petitioner had filed a similar petition at the High Court last year and Mr Ravi was let out in parole for two weeks.
But the Superintendent of Police, Virudhunagar and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Aruppukottai, who were the escorts, did not permit her son to meet any person or visit his properties stating that they did not receive directions to let him go out of his house, she claimed.
“The stand of the Virudhunagar police is illegal. The court did grant 15 days of ordinary leave to my son to settle property dispute. But the police misunderstood the order, because of which we could not make use of the leave”, she stated.
Justice K. K. Sasidharan, on Friday, ordered notice and adjourned the case to April 18.
