Rain improves flow into dams

Sothuparai dam surplussed on Friday owing to torrential showers on Kodaikanal hill and in the catchments for the past three days.

Entire inflow of 180 cusecs was overflowing from the dam as storage level crossed its total height of 126 foot this morning.

Storage was 100 mcft. Water level reached its total capacity of 55 feet in Manjalar dam.

Entire inflow of 284 cusecs was discharged into the Manjalar river. Storage was 435.32 mcft.

Storage level was inching towards its brim in Marudhanadhi dam that has 62 feet of water.

There was marginal increase in storage level in Periyar and Vaigai dams, owing to sharp slump in inflow. Level in Vaigai dam rose to 43.86 feet with an inflow of 1,946 cusecs. The discharge was 1,660 cusecs. Storage was 1,289 mcft. Periyar dam has 125.8 foot of water. Inflow slumped to 1,661 cusecs from 1,901 cusecs. Discharge was 1,400 cusecs. The storage was 3,791 mcft.

Dindigul

Torrential showers rocked many places in Dindigul district, including Kodaikanal on Friday evening. Even after heavy downpour in the last three days, waterbodies in rural areas mostly irrigation tanks did not receive water. Routine life was paralysed in Dindigul.

Rainfall

Total rainfall in the district was 116.99 mm and the average rain was 11.7 mm.

Rainfall recorded at various places on Friday in mm: Kodaikanal Boat Club 8.5, Kamatchipuram 11.8, Vedasandur Tobacco Research Station 35.4, Natham 5.2, Nilakottai 5.2, Palani 12, Vedasandur 27.4, Dindigul 3.69 and Kodaikanal 7.8. There was no rain at Chatrapatti.
