Madurai railway division was the first in the Southern Railway to commission unreserved ticketing system at all operational railway stations, Divisional Railway Manager Anil Singhal said.

Addressing a function organised in connection with the 55th Railway Week Celebrations here on Monday, Mr. Singhal said that despite economic challenges, the division was able to register a growth of more than 13 per cent in its earnings during 2009-10.

He commended the railway officials and staff for ensuring safety of passengers by attending to rail fracture in time. A total of 319 awards were given.
