The two-day visit of Chairman of Railway Board Vinay Mittal to Southern Railway and inspect various facilities in Thiruvananthapuram and Madurai divisions on Saturday and Sunday, was cancelled.

The arrest of Railway Board Member (Staff) Mahesh Kumar and a relative of Union Railway Minister P.K.Bansal, Vijay Singla, on Friday is said to be the reason for the cancellation of his visit.

However, an official statement from Madurai Railway Division said his visit was postponed without citing any reason.

Railway sources said Mr.Mittal was scheduled to fly down to Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday and have a meeting with top railway officials.

A window train inspection of the railway facilities in the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari and Kanyakumari-Madurai sections was planned on these two days.

“ With the Chairman cancelling his visit, the GM and other officials made the inspection on Saturday and left for Chennai,” an official said.
