Raid on 27 TASMAC shops in Madurai

The Labour Department raided 27 TASMAC shops in the city on Saturday, following complaints from consumers and consumer protection and awareness groups about liquor being sold at inflated prices.

Acting on the instructions of Labour Commissioner V. Raja and Deputy Commissioner R. Muthukrishnan, Assistant Commissioner P. Subramanian, along with a team of officials and members of consumer protection groups, raided outlets in various places, including Mattuthavani, Periyar Bus Stand complex, Aarapalayam, Arasaradi, Bypass Road and Villapuram.

Nearly 14 shops were found selling various liquor brands at inflated prices.

Many other TASMAC shop owners were pulled up for not issuing bills for purchases to customers.According to an official release, shops selling liquor at inflated prices were fined Rs.2,000 each. Cases were registered against these shops.
