A new treatment method called ‘Robotic Radio-surgery System’ for cancer cases has been introduced at the HealthCare Global Enterprises in Bangalore, a cancer care network, which is successfully treating patients for the past one year.
It has treated nearly 400 patients ever since a Rs.30- crore imported machine was purchased as an effective alternative to conventional types of treatment like the chemotherapy was ording to Nalini Rao, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Healthcare Global Enterprises (HCG), Bangalore.
Talking to media persons here on Saturday, she said that the robotic radio-surgery system ‘Cyber Knife” which was introduced only a year ago in Bangalore is offering a “revolutionary treatment for cancer patients and results were good so far.”
“This is an effective alternative to chemotherapy. The machine is a versatile, simple and intelligent tool having precise/pin-point accuracy in destroying the cancer tissues. The cost of this method will be between Rs.2 lakh to Rs.4 lakhs,” she said.
Nalini Rao however said that it is still too early to say that radiosurgery can be the best solution for cancer care “but from the results we got so far suggest that the machine is effective.”
The Cyber Knife is precise and also reduces the treatment time because it helps in giving higher radiation. It is non-invasive, pain less and can reach the inoperable tumours also, she explained.
According to her, even the cancer patients in advanced stages can come for radiosurgery since it helps having a pain-free living as long as they live. The HealthCare Global Enterprises is included in the list of approved hospitals of health insurance schemes, Dr.Naiini Rao said.
