For making Sivaganga seat a “family affair”
Bharatiya Janata Party State president Pon.Radhakrishnan has lashed out at senior Congress leader and Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram for fielding his son from Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency.
Describing it as the most selfish act in a democracy, the BJP leader said that Mr. Chidambaram got Congress ticket for his son Karti only because he wanted to make sure that no one should claim Sivaganga seat in future elections and retain it with his family forever.
“It is like throwing a towel or kerchief to grab a seat in general compartment of a train. He is escaping from contesting Parliamentary election knowing pretty well that he will lose the deposit. In the wave of Narendra Modi, even Mr.Karti Chidambaram will get defeated from there,” Mr.Pon.Radhakrishnan said.
Talking to The Hindu here on Tuesday, on his way to Nagercoil from where he is contesting the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP president said that the voters were determined to defeat Mr.Chidambaram since he never bothered to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu or his Sivaganga constituency.
“Mr.Chidambaram failed to take care of our State in Mullaiperiyar issue despite being in an influential position in the UPA government as Home Minister and Finance Minister. Now, running away from election is a shame for his decades of experience in politics,” he said.
Meanwhile, the State BJP has approached the party’s campaign committee in New Delhi to organise public meetings of Mr.Modi ahead of the April 24 Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu.
According to Mr.Pon.Radhakrishnan, in all likelihood Mr.Modi will campaign for the National Democratic Alliance candidates in the State after April 5.
On Tuesday, the Madurai Lok Sabha alliance candidate D.Sivamuthukumar of the DMDK met Mr.Pon.Radhakrishnan at the airport here to discuss the campaign arrangements and coordination between cadres of the two parties.
