The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday restrained V.V. Minerals and five other individuals from quarrying rough stones within a distance of 10 km from Vallandu Wildlife Sanctuary in Thoothukudi district without obtaining clearance from the Standing Committee of National Board for Wild Life.

A Division Bench of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and G.R. Swaminathan passed the interim order on a public interest litigation petition filed by D. Vijayakumar, a local agriculturalist involved in social activities. The judges also directed the Collector to file a detailed counter affidavit to the case by next month.
