Coordinator of the Anti Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project movement, S.P. Udhayakumar, has decided to file defamation case against Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy, for alleging that the protesters were getting money from foreign countries to stop commissioning of the plant.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, he said that the Congress was supporting the commissioning of the plant. “They are terming us anti-nationals only for opposing the commissioning of the plant. In Congress-ruled States, how many nuclear power plants will they instal to put an end to power cuts?”
He said they were not getting any single penny from foreign countries. Fishermen were voluntarily coming forward to donate for the agitation against the plant. He pointed out that while the Centre was targeting the supporters of the movement, the State government was supporting them. It had also passed a resolution against the commissioning of plant in the Assembly. They had full faith in the State government. The Centre had claimed that water from the nuclear power plant would not be drawn from the Pechipparai dam. But, former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had confirmed that the dam water would be utilised.
“The Central team will be here to inspect various aspects of the plant for three days from November 15. However, work on the plant is going on for more than 23 years. How is it possible to review the functioning of the plant within just three days?” asked Mr. Udayakumar.
National yatra
The second national yatra against nuclear power by the National Alliance of Anti Nuclear Movements, an umbrella organisation comprising various groups, organised a seminar on Saturday.
Thoman Kocherry, National Federation Fish Workers, said that the Central government, its nuclear establishment and several intellectuals who had sold their souls to the country's ruling elite had launched a massive propaganda campaigns to denigrate the movement.
“They are claiming that vested interests are behind the movement, and that the plant is necessary for the development of the country. They are claiming that nuclear energy is clean, safe, green and cheap and was the best solution to meet out future energy needs. They are all lying,” said Mr. Kocherry.
The people of south India were waging a determined struggle against the Kudankulam nuclear plant.
They were fighting to defend their livelihoods and environment and the health for their coming generation.
The people of India, were taking out the yatra from Madurai to Kudankulam. It would concluded with a national seminar in Chennai, said Mr. Kocherry.

How do we know our efficient and people caring Govt wouldn't repeat the
Bhopal incident in Kudankulam?
It seems, Angela Alvares took lot of pains to reach Kudankulam, right under the hot sun, (so sad....why don't u blame Sun for this, afterall u must have been exposed to some solar radiation due to hot sun as, don't u know, sun also emits radiation!); it's also mailed above that, Alvares discovered 30,000 strong audience protesting against Kudankulam, which is again blatant lie! Looks like conscience keepers added one extra zero! There's no space to accommodate even 1/2 of that! Even if the figure is right for arguments sake, then the expenditure for the food bill etc. must be even fatter, as rightly analysed by Kumar above! Looks like, anti-nuke protesters have mastered the art of misleading & misguiding, which they have been doing since last two months; If they have nothing to hide & there's no foreign hand, then let them publish the account of funds collection & spending on the web as did by Anna Hazare.
Can the Congress say that there is a Foreign hand in Telengana Issue?
Instead of solving the issue, Congress is trying to tarnish the image of activists & the innocent people fighting for their livlihood & safety of future generations
It is heartbreaking to see the way our government is treating these
soldiers of good cause. People of villages around Koodankalam
are trekking/ride sharing to the site day after day..there is not a
single public transport to the site so I taxied there..the road was
never ending and dreadfully hot unshaded by trees, Old people, skinny
village folk trudged along sometimes with dry wood on their heads, no
public vehicle to assist them whatever. At the site Dr.Udaya Kumar had
a crowd of over 30,000 or more, women on one side with their precious
kids and men on the other. Some men in local dress cooked rice which
they mixed with watery curd This was the only meal the thousands
partook of for the day. The love and bonding of these villagers was
astounding. Looking at the gruel I decided to fast in support for
their cause. These ladies were there to protect their children
from radiation, huge decomissioning costs, and future big bills for
isolating nuclear waste- NO FOREIGN hands here!!
100 Rs per individual who is protesting = 100 x 300 = 3,00,000 / day,
Shamyana Pandhal, Food, Loud Speakers, Refreshments for 300 people =
3,00,000. The Fisherman in and around kudankulam are able to generate
revenue of 6,00,000 Rs / day.... WOW....
Kudankulam reactors are Russian built. There are several reactors
suppliers who will lose their market in india if these reactors
begins power production.... These vested interests are using
uneducated people to agitate and scrap this project. Churches are
using the fund from you know who to instigate the protestors. Why
else does every day the bells in the Churches ring twice and ask the
people to be together to fight against the reactors?!?!?.
It would seem that according to the UPA government every organisation which protests against any alleged wrongdoing by the UPA government must be receiving foreign funds. Interestingly the media generally gulps such accusations. The government evidently believes that if it continuously throws mud at its adverseries, some would stick. Since the media has nothing to gain by criticising the government, it plays along in this game. But will it work in the present situation when the government's credentials are nothing to write home about?
whether it is true or false;attributing any anti government movement has support from foreign agencies was a cliche. we had seen the same in Anna Hazare movement few months back. Here, question or dilemma of indian people is choosing a safe, environmental friendly and sustainable development model where we have desperately in need of gigantic power.
Though it is difficult to prove without evidence that the agitation is funded by foreign money, it is quiet possible looking at the politics. The Congress Goverments all the time tried to defame anything that won't benefit them electorally. That is a fact. So we shouldn't trust the minister and congress unless they show the evidence. Ofcourse they can create that too.
