The protest against the Sivakasi Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), K. Kombaiyan, has intensified with the Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) joining the revenue officials in their strike on Wednesday.

A total of 190 VAOs in the district, under the aegis of Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers' Association, went on an en masse casual leave demanding the immediate transfer of the RDO.

“We have decided to go on casual leave for two days. Further course of action will be decided after the holidays,” the district president of the association, M. Sundar, said.

Both the associations have gone on strike seeking transfer of Mr. Kombaiyan, who had led a team of police and revenue officials for conducting raid in a motor pump house in a farm for illegally manufactured crackers on August 10.

Eight of the team members were killed in a fire accident while removing huge quantity of illegally manufactured fuses.

Mr. Sundar said that the VAOs could not work under Mr. Kombaiyan.

“He should get transferred out of the district owing moral responsibility for the accident,” he added.

The Tamil Nadu Revenue Officers' Association too went on mass casual leave till Thursday.
