Programme on nuclear energy held in college

About 12,000 college, polytechnic and school students from Madurai, Melur, Sivaganga, Karaikudi, Tiruppuvanam, Manamadurai and Paramakudi participated in a national-level seminar-cum-awareness programme on nuclear energy that began at Vickram College of Engineering at Enathi near here on Thursday.

The two-day programme, organised in association with Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) and Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Anna University, featured a talk on ‘Nuclear energy for future India’ by R. S. Sawant, chairman, Public Awareness Committee, KKNPP, and on ‘Environment-friendly nuclear energy’ by P. Pandaram, Scientific Officer.

The students also participated in an expo on nuclear energy and several competitions organised to mark the occasion. M. K. S. Sreenivasan, chairman, Vickram educational institutions, in his presidential address, highlighted the need to study pure sciences.

C. Swarnalatha, Head, Management Studies, Anna University Regional Office, explained the objectives of the seminar.
