Probe honour killings, demands PT

March 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - MADURAI:

Claiming that honour killings and untouchability crimes were on the rise in the State, Puthiya Tamilagam leader Krishnasamy wanted a high-level team of the Union Home Ministry and National Human Rights Commission to visit villages in southern districts to asses the ground situation as the State government was in denial mode.

He called for a review of the soon-to-be released movie, Komban , starring Karthik, by the Board of Film Certification, as it attempted to establish the hegemony of a dominant caste. Some of the dialogues eulogised a dominant caste and denigrated the oppressed classes, he charged.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the Departments of Higher Education and School Education should send circulars banning celebration of birth anniversary of caste leaders on the campus.
