The fake birth certificate issued in the name of Aam Aadmi Party founder and Delhi Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal with Madurai Corporation official seal has been traced to the Government Rajaji Hospital here.
Based on serial number 28241 printed on the certificate, Corporation officials on Tuesday swung into action to verify the genuineness of the document even as a formal complaint was lodged with the Tallakulam police.
On Monday, four lawyers produced an original copy and distributed photocopies to the media.
There were, however, errors in Kejriwal’s spelling, date of birth and parents’ names and the fake birth certificate had claimed that the Delhi CM-designate was born at Karpaga Nagar in K. Pudur.
Corporation sources told The Hindu that aspects regarding forgery, manipulation, mischief and tarnishing the image of the Corporation were being probed.
An emergency meeting with officials in the birth certificate section was convened by the Corporation Commissioner Kiran Gurrala on Tuesday where it was decided that the stock of 10,000 certificates given to the GRH must be checked and catch the guilty from the name list of those who received birth certificates during the month mentioned in Mr.Kejriwal’s case. City Health Officer V.Yasodha Mani and Assistant City Health Officer J.Thanga Vignesh claimed that the certificate was a fake one from the fact that it was typed with font of typewriting machine whereas birth certificates are issued in computer font in Corporation Head Office and in GRH.
“The particulars given in that certificate were not found in our database,” the City Health Officer said.
According to Dr. Vignesh, the GRH sanitary inspector did not maintain proper records and hence it would take sometime to verify the entire name list and addresses.
Meanwhile, the Tallakulam police registered the complaint in the community service register and no first information report has been registered so far.
“We have begun the investigation. Unlike last time when death certificates issued in the name of a Minister and an MLA which was properly registered in the records of the Corporation , this time it looks like a fake certificate made by some unidentified persons without any records in the Corporation,” a police officer said.
