Even as the summer festival and flower show scheduled to commence on May 20, the district administration has kick-started events prior to the festival in order to create awareness among people about the festival and the need to protect the environment here on Tuesday.

To begin with, they organised a parade of horses and procession of bike riders in the town this morning.

Carrying banners in their hands, the riders took out a rally, which started from BSNL office and reached Moonjikkal after passing through Lake Road, Seven Road, Anna Salai and Kodaikanal Bus stand.

The participants campaigned on ill effects of plastic and appealed to the tourists to avoid using plastic bags, bottles and other plastic materials.

Trekking competition

Trekking competition for tourists and the public will be held at 11 a.m. on May 10 at Coakers Walk, another prime tourists’ attraction.

Participants will start trekking from Coakers walk and end at Dolphin Nose point. Forest officials will monitor the trekking. Participants are advised to wear full pants and shoes, the officials said.
