The State Government should popularise the post-matric scholarship scheme and implement G.O. No:92 which states no fee shall be collected from SC/ST and SC Christian converts students, whose parental income is less than Rs.2 lakh, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has demanded.

A resolution pressing for this demand was passed during the party’s Madurai rural district executive council meeting held at Tirumangalam on Monday.

The meeting, presided over by district secretary R.Ayyankaalai and attended by 150 office-bearers, also passed a resolution to re-install a new bronze statue of chief architect of Indian Constitution B.R.Ambedkar that was damaged near Perungudi last year.

In another resolution, they said the death anniversary of M.Malaichami, who first formed Dalit Panthers of India in Tamil Nadu, would be observed with a public function on September 14.

Their other demands included judicial inquiry into the death of Dalit boy Ilavarasan of Dharmapuri, speedy execution of the Cauvery Combined River Water Project, which would provide drinking water to Tirumangalam, Melur and other areas in Madurai district.

P.Aatral Arasu, state organising secretary, and V.P.Inquilab, state joint secretary, Progressive Students’ Association, also participated.
