The fun boat rides being operated by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) at Vennamadaikulam on the Main Falls – Five Falls stretch as part of the Courtallam season has been badly affected due to poor storage in the water body.

To enthral the tourists visiting Courtallam and to provide them one more facility, the then Collector, Sunil Paliwal, provided retaining wall to Vennamadaikulam and increased its height to store adequate water in the tank and then roped in Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation to operate rowing and pedalling boats there.

As the fun boat ride triggered wild reception, the TTDC brought good number of boats from Ooty and Kodaikanal to Vennamadaikulam Boat Club.

No desilting

Since no desilting was done in the tank for the past few years and the channels bringing water to Vennamadaikulam were not renovated during the onset of the season, water influx into the tank was very poor.

Consequently, the unsatisfactory storage level has affected the operation of boats at Vennamadaikulam, where the service for this season was launched only a few days ago.

The inadequate depth of water does not allow the tourists to take the boat wherever he wants to go within Vennamadaikulam.

Good inflow into the tank alone can improve the services, the visitors say.
