N. Kamini, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ramanathapuram range, has placed under suspension Inspector of Police M. Gunasekaran, attached to Chathirakudi station in the district after the Dindigul taluk police booked him on the charge of assaulting a head constable in Dindigul in a drunken mood.
After the police registered the First Information Report against Mr. Gunasekaran and two of his friends under sections 341, 294(b), 324, 323, 387 and 506(ii) of Indian Penal Code for assaulting the head constable S. Ramesh Babu (48), serving in Vedasundur police station on April 18, Ms. Kamini, in her order dated April 20, placed him under suspension.
The DIG suspended him from service with immediate effect, invoking the provisions of Tamil Nadu Police Subordinate Services (Discipline and Appeal), Rules 1955. She has asked the Inspector of police, who is absconding, to remain in the district headquarters and not leave the headquarters without obtaining permission from authority concerned.
Mr Gunasekaran, a native of Alagampatti in Dindigul, had gone to his village while on leave and assaulted Babu after a wordy duel, while consuming liquor with two of his friends at Uthanampatti TASMAC shop on the night of April 18.
Mr. Babu suffered fracture on his left forearm and underwent a surgery.
While the police arrested M. Manikandan and remanded him in judicial custody, Gunasekaran and Rajamani, another accused in the case, went absconding, police said.
