The Marine Police of Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group have intensified patrolling along the coast in the district in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Rameswaram on Thursday.

As Mr. Modi is scheduled to visit Rameswaram on Thursday to unveil late President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s memorial at Peikarumbu, over 5,000 police personnel have been deployed there even as fishing has been banned for two days by Rameswaram and Mandapam fishermen to check the infiltration of terrorists via sea.

On their part, the marine police intensified patrolling along the coast of Kanniyakumari from Arockiyapuram to Neerodi and also in the villages since Wednesday. Surprise checks are being conducted in the lodges at Kanniyakumari and Nagercoil and also in the fishing harbours at Chinna Muttom, Colachel, Rajakkamangalam and Thengaipattinam.

Check-posts along the east coast road have been fortified with additional police personnel for conducting vehicle check.

Fishermen have been told to alert the police if they happen to notice any unusual movement of boats on high seas.
