A plea filed before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking removal of certain scenes from the movie Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru has been withdrawn by the petitioner. Justice R. Mahadevan subsequently dismissed the petition.

The petitioner, M. Pasumpon of De-notified Tribes’ Welfare Association, Madurai, had filed the petition against makers of the movie and the Central Board of Film Certification seeking an interim stay of screening of the film till the objectionable scenes depicting the de-notified tribes in bad light were removed.

The petitioner had also demanded that 50% of the revenue generated from screening of the movie be paid to carry out welfare activities benefiting de-notified tribes.

However, the film makers, in a recent statement, had apologised for using the term ‘criminal tribe’ and agreed to remove the scenes in which it was used.
